Are All Ebooks Free for Amazon Prime Members?

I am assuming you are referring to ebooks available on Amazon. The answer is NO, all ebooks are not free for Amazon Prime members. You get 1 free ebook per month from a selection of 4 to 5 ebooks and the selection itself may not be great or to your liking.

There is an option called Prime Reading under which you get about 100 ebooks for free from a selection that is rotating from time to time. It is better than the normal Prime Membership.

There is another program called Kindle Unlimited that is available for a monthly subscription. If you subscribe to it then you get access to over 1 million free ebooks from which you can download up to 10 at a time. Totally worth it and should be enough for your needs.

For the benefit of reading enthusiasts who are addicted to the Kindle way of reading, read on to find out through the below-mentioned ways how to get an ebook that is more to your liking, for free. First I am going to list ways on Amazon itself to get free ebooks, Then I will list ways beyond Amazon that you can get free ebooks to read on your Kindle device (yes it’s possible!).

  1. Go to Amazon’s Best Sellers Kindle Store. It will show you 2 tabs. Select the tab that says ‘Top 100 free’ and voila!

  1. Amazon First Reads offers a chance for you to read 1 free ebook per month which is yet to release, if you are an Amazon Prime member. Bet you didn’t know that!
  2. There is a Kindle Lending Library where you can lend yourself 1 ebook for free every month if you are a Prime member.
  3. Sellers offer Promotions and Giveaways where their newly launched ebook on Amazon is available for free to download for a maximum of 5 days (offered on 5 consecutive days and set apart as well). Keep an eye out for that.
  4. There’s this cheeky way. You can opt for the Free Trial period offer on Amazon to read many ebooks for free in the trial period. Do remember to cancel the subscription in time else you will end up paying for it when the trial period expires.
  5. The Daily Deals section of Amazon has free ebooks at times. Keep checking there as well.
  6. Check the Kindle Store Categories section. Look for Top 100 free of Free category section in the categories of your choice to land free reading opportunities.

Outside of Amazon platform options for free ebooks to read on Kindle:

  1. Search for “free ebooks to download” or ” ‘Name of the book’ free ebook to download” on Google (use the double quotes). Most likely you will find a platform to download. Once downloaded you can use free software (I prefer ‘Caliber’) to convert it to Kindle format (.mobi file) and transfer it to my Kindle. The choices this way are endless. Olden goldies are the easiest to land this way as they are more likely available for free due to their expired license.
  2. Search for “0.00 Kindle books” on Google. Most likely you will find something good. repat step 1 above for Kindle transfer.
  3. There are plenty of websites that offer free ebooks. Download and repeat step 1 above for a great Kindle experience. The websites are Smashword, Project Gutenberg, Freebooksy, BookBub, EreaderIQ, Reddit/r/freeeboks, Booklending, and Goodreads Free section, and more. You may have to do some digging on these platforms to find the free section but its worth the time for any booknerd.
  4. Public libraries offer plenty of free ebooks to read.
